PROJECTS AND TESTIMONIALS

"I COME WITH YOU"

Inclusive communication support follows the artwork

The removal of communication barriers that inhibit people with disabilities from accessing services and information are part of the goal of V.A.M.I. Roma ODV, which has been committed for years to promoting accessibility and enjoyment of cultural heritage for all.

On the occasion of exhibitions involving the loan of artworks from one museum to another, as in the case of some masterpieces of the Borghese Gallery recently exhibited at Palazzo Barberini, multisensory panels (see Raphael's painting - Madonna con unicorno - and the related panel in the adjacent photo) accompany the artworks in the new exhibition.

And it is in this sense that the project I COME WITH YOU ' intends to make the original artwork travel with the inclusive communicative aid. The communicative aid follows the artwork and thus, in addition to its intrinsic function, is a vehicle for raising awareness of disability and inclusion issues for the entire visiting public.

THE ART GALLERY FOR ALL

The project intends to communicate the artwork in a simple and inclusive way, addressing as wide an audience as possible, in terms of age and ability, with a special focus on people with sensory difficulties. The first 5 multi-sensory boards were produced in A3 format, in rigid, lightweight, easy-to-consult material containing:

  • High quality colour image of the work
  • An embossed image of the work, made of a transparent resin to facilitate the tactile experience of visually impaired and blind visitors
  • Highly readable text (both in terms of the typeface and font used and the simplified and essential vocabulary) containing information about the work
  • Titles, authors and short text on the back of the table in Italian, in English and transcribed in Braille
  • QR code and NFC to access audio-description content for visitors with visual disabilities (or for anyone who prefers listening to an audio rather than reading a text) in Italian and English.
  • QR code and NFC to access the descriptive video in LIS, Italian Sign Language, for deaf people.

The time for analysing an artwork lasts between 5 and 7 minutes.A differentiated range of fruition options, therefore, that ensures a multisensory experience for everyone. It is a complete tool that guarantees the widest accessibility and a complete integration of the various audiences, favouring the relationship between subjects and at the same time autonomy, as well as being a precious and useful research and study tool in particular for the visually impaired, since copies of the drawings to be transformed into relief on microcapsule paper are available on request.
