ASSOCIATED VOLUNTEERS FOR ITALIAN MUSEUMS
V.A.M.I. ROME-ODV - VAT/Tax Code 97315310587

Visitors with visual disabilities are allowed to explore a wide selection of sculptures from the Museum's collection by touch, using latex gloves.
The descriptive visit is based on the verbal description of the artwork through specific vocabulary designed to help blind people create lasting mental images or recall them, as well as to evoke emotions and stimulate reflection.
It is possible to choose between 5 different tour routes:
The visit is dedicated to one of the rooms on the ground floor of the palace, which appears as a unified space and is strongly characterized by its sculptural furnishings, thanks to the presence of monumental granite columns, pilasters, ancient statues, and a spectacular indoor fountain, still functioning, with rich sculpted decoration.
The tour focuses on one of the monumental halls of the main floor. The room now houses a series of Roman-era sculptures, including busts, full-figure sculptures, and sarcophagi, of different workmanship, dating, and origin.
The purpose of the route is to allow visitors to experience the spatial, bodily, and proprioceptive dimension of a complex ensemble that, in a theatrical and typically Baroque manner, integrates sculpture, decoration, and architecture.
During the visit, tiflological panels referring to certain architectural details are also used.
The itinerary starts from the Roman-era busts in the Marble Hall, to highlight the iconographic and compositional continuities of the Baroque busts dedicated to the Barberini, despite the natural stylistic differences.
The route differs from the others, nevertheless offering blind and visually impaired visitors a relatively new opportunity for accessibility, as it is intended for visiting the storage areas that are normally not open to the public.
